ABOUT RUDRAKSHA SEEDS: The name Rudraksha stems from Hindu mythology and means "the tears of Lord Shiva." It is believed that when Shiva went into deep meditation on the well-being of all creatures, he emerged crying tears of compassion. When these tears fell upon the earth they took the form of seeds that grew into the Rudraksha tree. These trees are mostly found in the tropical and sub-tropical areas of Nepal and the Himalayan slopes, Indonesia and Malaysia. By wearing the mala against the skin, it is believed to increase the ability to concentrate, giving clarity and peace of mind, improve memory and relieve stress and anxiety.

Malas are used all over by the Buddhists around the world especially they are used in Tibet, Nepal and India. You will always see the monks as well as lay people using them while walking around the stupas or temples or monasteries. A Mala is usually used for prostrations, counting mantras, and so on. It is worn on the left wrist while not in use.
